We here at NCG are always about being efficient and using tools that allow us to get the most out of our day. The Barisieur, designed by Joshua Renouf does just that. It’s an alarm clock that also brews a cup of coffee!
The water is boiled by the movement of stainless steal ballbearings through induction heating. The bearings also act as the alarm and wakes the sleeper up vs. the loud buzzing or morning zoo keeper on the radio we have all come accustomed too. The wake up is subtle, accompanied with the scent of fresh brewed coffee.
There is a little company out of Richmond VA making some great things. Square Trade Goods Co. was created by Alan Long, in his quest to find the perfect candle. Having no luck with the off-the-shelf candle market, Alan took it upon himself to create the quintessential campfire scented candle this world has seen.
It took a year of trial and error, but in the end he was able to find the perfect blend of pine, cedar, wood smoke and a subtle hint of amber. He completes the scent with U.S. grown all natural soy wax, self trimming all natural cotton wick and to top it off, each candle is hand poured in either an amber glass jar or a reusable whiskey glass. What comes out in the end is a strong, but not overwhelming sent that can burn up to 4 hours continually.(Note: I have left mine burn for 6-8, but I like to break the rules)
Alan has expanded his candle offering to eight (8) scents as well as expanding into hand salve and some apparel and accessories. He has started down the path to create a nice lifestyle brand that we here at NCG can get behind.
This is one post we here at NCG look forward to each year. It’s a time were we get to showcase some great product made by great companies, right here in the USA. This season we have selected ten items that would make any guy beam with joy if he found them in his stocking or under the tree come Christmas morning. To sweeten the pot even more, the fine gentlemen over at Owen & Fred have agreed to donate a YOU EARNED IT solid brass bottle opener to 3 readers who leave a comment.* If you ask me, that beats any Black Friday deal I have seen thus far. Links to the products and where to purchase are below.
Not able to find the perfect globe for his father on his 80th birthday, Peter Bellerby took matters into his own hands. He designed one himself and in 2008, due to the large popularity of his globes, Bellerby & Co Globemakers was founded.
He and his team create the sphere out of plaster and then glue the triangular strips, or ‘gore’ to the sphere, without any ripping or ripples. His technique took 18+ months to perfect and over 100 globes were tossed into the scrap pile along the way. To quote Peter, ‘…any mistake on the sphere is then multiplied by Pi…so its extremely important to get the sphere 100% correct, its the base of the entire project.’
