WHEN IT WAS REAL

Before the days of the Remsen Slim Straight denim, the Wolf Pond polo and a signature scent by the name of Fierce, Abercrombie & Fitch was a major outdoor retailer. With a client list that included Teddy Roosevelt, Katharine Hepburn and John F. Kennedy, customers knew if they wanted high quality outdoor goods, Abercrombie & Fitch was where they were to visit.

This past week on eBay I was lucky to win an Abercrombie & Fitch canvas duffel bag, dating back to the 1950’s. It is hard to get an exact date on manufacturing of the bag, but with the Crown Zipper, leather reinforcements on the metal rivets and the shuttle loom label, I can be sure it was manufactured way before the term ‘casual luxury’ or ‘muscle fit’ was used to describe a once great apparel retailer.
